Understanding Your Coverage Options

LiteMovers offers different coverage levels for your move. The coverage you select determines what we pay if items are damaged on the move this is not related to your residence. Understanding these options helps you protect your belongings.

Basic Coverage (Released Value)

Basic coverage comes standard with every move. Under this option, liability is limited to $0.60 per pound per item. This means if a 100-pound sofa is damaged, the maximum payment is $60.

Basic coverage protects you but may not fully cover the replacement cost of valuable items. If you have furniture, electronics, or heirlooms worth more than their weight-based value, consider upgrading to Full Valuation Coverage.

Full Valuation Coverage

Full Valuation Coverage provides protection based on the actual replacement value of your items. You declare the value of your belongings at the time of the move. If items are damaged, we pay to repair or replace them at their declared value.

This option is ideal for high-value moves, antiques, artwork, and electronics. Many customers moving from Philadelphia to Florida or across long distances choose this coverage for peace of mind.

To elect Full Valuation Coverage, notify LiteMovers during your estimate or before moving day. We’ll help you create a detailed inventory and assign values to your items.

Items NOT Covered by Either Plan

Certain items cannot be covered under standard moving insurance, regardless of which option you choose. Understanding these exclusions helps you plan for additional protection if needed.

Items NOT covered:

  • ✓ Particle board furniture and items
  • ✓ Self-assembled items and flat-pack furniture
  • ✓ Uncrated or unprotected glass items
  • ✓ Items previously repaired or refinished
  • ✓ Artwork without professional crating
  • ✓ TV’s with kits or crates
  • ✓ Mattresses without a bag
  • ✓ Collectibles without special packaging

Why These Items Are Excluded

Particle board: This material is fragile and cannot withstand the movement and vibration of transport. Once damaged, particle board cannot be reliably repaired.

Self-assembled furniture: Items assembled by the owner may have structural weaknesses. We cannot guarantee the integrity of self-assembled pieces.

Uncrated glass: Glass requires professional crating to survive a move. Bare glass cannot be protected adequately by standard moving procedures.

Previously repaired items: We cannot determine the quality of past repairs. Damage may result from poor previous repair work, not our handling.

How to Protect High-Value Items

If you have items that fall into excluded categories or high-value pieces, take extra steps to protect them:

  • ✓ Get a professional appraisal before the move
  • ✓ Consider professional packing services for delicate items
  • ✓ Use professional crating for artwork and glass
  • ✓ Document items with photos and video
  • ✓ Transport extremely valuable items yourself
  • ✓ Review your homeowner’s insurance for coverage

LiteMovers offers professional packing and crating services for antiques, artwork, and valuable items. Our experienced team knows how to protect pieces that require special care.

Insurance Recommendations

For moves involving valuable items, consider these additional protections:

Homeowner’s or Renter’s Insurance: Your existing insurance may cover items in transit. Check your policy to see what’s included and what additional coverage might be available.

Full Valuation Coverage: Elect this option when booking your move. It provides peace of mind for high-value belongings and antiques.

Professional Packing: Items packed by professionals are less likely to be damaged. The cost of professional packing often pays for itself in reduced damage claims.
