Before The Move
Access Route
Check the access route to where the truck is to be loaded and unladed. Make certain the path is devoid of obstacles, and if necessary, clear of snow and ice if in the winter season. IMPORTANT: If parking permit is required, please make sure they have beeb secured ahead of time. Unfortunately, parking tickets issued because of a lack of permits are the responsibility of the customer.
Elevator Access
If you live in a complex that has elevator service, be sure to make an elevator reservation with your building management.
Insurance Certificate
If required by your building, we need to know in advance so that we have the paperwork ready to go.
PREPARATION
If you can, decide ahead of time what furniture will be donated or hauled away. We can help with your cleanup and deliver donated items to the proper individual or organization. Arrange for a sitter to help with the little ones and the family pets.
Overnight Bag
Pack a bag for you and your family if that is the case. Include toiletries, pj’s and even a set of clothes for the next work day. You won’t feel much like unpacking upon arrival of your new place.
Clear Plastic Bin
Pack the things you will need immediately upon arrival at your new location. A key item is a box cutter to help you open boxes. Include paper towels, trash bags, a few dishes and utensils, basic cookware, power strips, chargers for mobile phones, tools, etc. While we do not recommend plastic bins, a clear bin in this case lets you immediately see what you need.
Clean and Strong Boxes
Try to avoid using boxes from liquor stores and especially supermarkets. The boxes are often odd sizes and are hard to stack effectively. Many supermarket boxes have been used to ship food products and you don’t want to have an unsavory family of pests moving into your new home with you.
PREPARATION CON’T…
Appliances
Unplug appliances from the outlets and disconnect all cables, wires. Make sure your washing machine has been disconnected from the water source and the tub is empty. Defrost the fridge the day before and be sure it is dry.
Televisions
To save time and money be sure your TV’s are REMOVED from wall, BEFORE we arrive. To best protect your televisions, pack them in their original box if possible. We can provide a box, with advanced notice. The cost for an appropriate box is usually around $45-$60 and if you want to watch your favorite show when you arrive, it is well worth it.
If no box is used, the television will be wrapped carefully “in our special moving blankets. However, due to the sensitivity of electronics, no level of coverage can be offered. This even includes the basic “60 cents a pound” coverage can be offered unless boxed properly.
Disassembly
We are a full-service moving company, and we are always happy to help you with disassembly, assembly, etc. but if you are looking to keep your move as economical as possible, remember the old adage, “time is money”.
It is important to be sure all bed frames, exercise equipment, and other similar items are disassembled. Be sure to identify all parts of the disassembled items so that they can be easily identified and reassembled. Put nuts and bolts into a zip lock food bag.
One Last Look
Just before we depart, give your home a quick walk through just to be sure your favorite teddy bear or book isn’t accidentally left behind.
During The Move
Our men are professionals and have a job to do for you so please make every attempt to stay clear while they are moving furniture. Providing water or other drinks, for the men is greatly appreciated (non-alcoholic of course). A hydrated mover is a happy and efficient mover.
After The Move
Give your new home a walk through to be sure our men have everything it its proper location.
Check out dressers with attached mirrors, bookcases, bed frames, tables etc. to make sure you have knowledge of the location of all pieces, i.e. shelves, glass shelves, table leaves, etc.
Not that it’s likely, but if you discover any damage to your home or belongings, they must be identified before we depart. Just before we do so, head out to the truck with the movers just to verify the entire truck has been unpacked and nothing is left.
We are tru professionals and provide each customer with an excellent moving experience. We would appreciate your feedback. If you are 100% satisfied, we are as well. If anything could be improved, we would love to hear that too. We are always looking to improve our service.
