Room-by-Room Packing Guide
Kitchen
Dishes and glassware need extra protection. Wrap each piece individually in packing paper. Pack plates vertically like records—they’re less likely to break this way. Fill empty spaces with crumpled paper to prevent shifting.
Small appliances should go in their original boxes when possible. Otherwise, wrap cords separately and pad the appliance with bubble wrap or towels.
Bedroom
Clothing can stay in drawers if you’re moving locally. For long-distance moves, pack clothes in suitcases or wardrobe boxes. Leave items on hangers in wardrobe boxes for easy unpacking.
Mattresses need mattress bags to stay clean during the move. We provide these when you use LiteMovers.
Living Room
Electronics should be photographed before disconnecting. This makes setup easier. Pack remotes and cables in labeled bags. Original boxes are ideal for TVs and computers.
Books are heavy. Use small boxes and don’t overfill them. Pack books flat or spine-down to prevent damage.
Pro Packing Tips
Tip 1: Pack Heavy Items in Small Boxes
Books, tools, and canned goods go in small boxes. This keeps weight manageable and prevents box bottoms from breaking.
Tip 2: Label Everything Clearly
Write the room name and a brief description on each box. Add “FRAGILE” in large letters on delicate items. Consider color-coding boxes by room.
Tip 3: Pack an Essentials Box
Include items you’ll need immediately: toiletries, medications, phone chargers, important documents, and a change of clothes. Keep this box with you, not on the truck.
Tip 4: Use Clothes and Towels as Padding
Wrap fragile items in t-shirts, socks, or dish towels. This saves on bubble wrap and packs two things at once.
Tip 5: Don’t Leave Empty Spaces
Fill gaps in boxes with packing paper, clothes, or bubble wrap. Items shift during transport and can break if boxes aren’t full.
What Not to Pack
Professional movers cannot transport certain items. Keep these with you or dispose of them properly:
- ✓ Hazardous materials (paint, chemicals, propane)
- ✓ Flammable items (gasoline, lighter fluid)
- ✓ Perishable food
- ✓ Plants (for long-distance moves)
- ✓ Important documents and jewelry (keep these with you)
- ✓ Prescription medications
