The I-95 Corridor: How a Southeast Move Works
Most Philadelphia-to-Southeast moves follow the I-95 corridor. From our Wayne, PA base, the route runs south through Wilmington DE, Baltimore, DC, Richmond, and on into the Carolinas, Georgia, and Florida. Here’s the typical workflow.
In-home estimate
A LiteMovers estimator walks your home in person or over video. We measure inventory, note long-carry or stair access, and confirm your destination details. Estimates are binding-not-to-exceed where possible.
Packing days
Long-distance moves require professional packing for fragile items. We can full-pack, partial-pack, or pack only kitchens, china, art, and electronics. Packing typically happens 1-2 days before load.
Load day
Crew arrives early. Floor protection goes down. Furniture gets pad-wrapped and shrink-wrapped. Inventory tags every item. You sign the inventory list and bill of lading before the truck rolls south.
Transit south
Our driver handles the haul. Virginia and DC routes deliver same-day. The Carolinas typically deliver in 1-2 days. Georgia and Florida fall within a 2-3 day window. We update you on the driver’s progress.
Delivery and unpack
Crew unloads, places furniture in your designated rooms, reassembles beds and tables, and removes packing debris if you’ve added unpacking. You sign off on the inventory at delivery.
What Makes Southeast Moves Different
- ✓
Heat planning matters. Summer moves to Florida or coastal South Carolina can hit 95+ degrees inside a closed truck. We schedule loads early in the morning and pad-wrap candles, electronics, and pressed-wood furniture to handle the heat. - ✓
HOA and gated community access. Many Florida, Hilton Head, and Charleston communities require gate passes, certificate of insurance, and approved move windows. We coordinate this before move day. - ✓
Hurricane season. Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November. We monitor named storms and reschedule load or delivery dates if a system threatens the route or destination. - ✓
Storage at our Wayne warehouse. If your Southeast closing slips, we hold your belongings in Pennsylvania until your new home is ready. Common on second-home and retirement moves. - ✓
Reverse moves available. Heading back north? We run the reverse direction on every Southeast route. See our moving to Pennsylvania hub for inbound details.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a Philadelphia to Southeast move take?
Transit time depends on destination. Virginia and DC area routes often deliver same-day or next-day. The Carolinas typically deliver in 1-2 days. Georgia and Florida fall within a 2-3 day window for most direct service moves. Standard delivery windows on long-distance moves run 1-7 days from load day, but our direct routes typically deliver inside 1-3 days. We confirm a target delivery date before pickup and update you with the driver’s status during the haul.
Do you handle moves to gated communities and HOA neighborhoods?
Yes. Many Florida, Hilton Head, Charleston, and Outer Banks communities require gate passes, approved move windows, certificate of insurance, and sometimes pre-registered vehicle information. We coordinate all of this with the property manager or HOA before move day. Send your community’s move-in requirements when you book. We handle Naples, The Villages, Sun City, Hilton Head Plantation, Kiawah Island, and dozens of other gated communities every season.
What about hurricane season for Florida and coastal moves?
Atlantic hurricane season runs from June through November. We monitor the National Hurricane Center for any named storms that could affect your route or destination. If a hurricane or tropical storm threatens your move dates, we reschedule the load or delivery to a safe window at no penalty. Most coastal moves go off without weather issues, but we’d rather delay 24-48 hours than send a truck into a storm. Talk with your estimator about hurricane-season flexibility when booking summer or fall dates.
Can you store my belongings if my Southeast closing slips?
Yes. We offer storage at our Wayne, Pennsylvania warehouse for short-term and long-term holds between closings. Your belongings stay in vault containers or palletized storage until your new home is ready. We then schedule the haul south on a date that works for you. This is one of the biggest advantages of using a Pennsylvania-based mover for an outbound Southeast move. We have storage at the origin side, so you don’t have to scramble for a third-party warehouse if your Florida or Carolina closing changes.
How far in advance should I book a Southeast move?
Book your long-distance move 6-8 weeks ahead when possible. Summer months from May through August are the busiest stretch for interstate moving and dates fill quickly. End-of-month and beginning-of-month dates fill first because of lease and closing schedules. Retirement and second-home moves to Florida and the Carolinas peak in fall and spring. Booking early locks in your preferred load date and gives you time for a proper in-home estimate. Short-notice moves are sometimes possible. Call us anyway and we’ll tell you honestly whether we can fit your timeline.
