Family Moving Services – We Get It
Moving with kids changes everything. LiteMovers provides family-focused moving services that work around school calendars, protect what matters most, and keep stress to a minimum.
Moving Your Family Without the Chaos
Family moves involve more than boxes and furniture. They involve timing around school schedules, keeping children comfortable during transition, protecting treasured toys and keepsakes, and coordinating the thousand details that come with relocating a household full of people. LiteMovers has helped hundreds of families navigate this process smoothly.
We’re a family-owned company ourselves, operating in the Greater Philadelphia area since 2007. We understand the pressures families face during relocation. Our approach focuses on reducing stress, protecting your belongings, and working within the timeline your family needs.

Why Family Moves Are Different
A couple moving to a new apartment faces different challenges than a family of five relocating to a new school district. Family moves typically involve more belongings, more rooms, more logistics, and more emotions. Children need stability during transition. Parents need to balance moving tasks with keeping daily life running. The timeline often hinges on school calendars rather than convenience.
We’ve built our family moving services around these realities. From flexible scheduling to careful handling of children’s treasured items, every aspect of our service considers what families actually need.
Services Designed for Families
Our family moving services address the specific challenges households with children face. Here’s how we help.
✓ School Calendar Coordination
We schedule around academic timelines. Whether you need to move during winter break, spring break, or the narrow window after school ends, we work with your calendar.
✓ Kids’ Room Priority
We can unload children’s bedrooms first so kids have their familiar space set up while we continue with the rest of the house. Familiar surroundings help children adjust.
✓ Complete Packing Services
Let us handle the packing so you can focus on your family. Our crews pack everything from kitchen items to playroom toys, using appropriate materials for each.
✓ Careful Handling
We understand that some items carry emotional value beyond their price. Favorite stuffed animals, handmade art projects, and family heirlooms all receive careful attention.
Moving During the School Year
Sometimes job changes or home purchases don’t align with summer break. Mid-year moves require extra coordination but happen successfully all the time. We help families time moves around testing periods, minimize days missed, and get children settled quickly. Our crews work efficiently so your family can focus on the transition rather than the logistics.

The Family Moving Timeline
Successful family moves require planning. Here’s a timeline that works for most families.
Six to Eight Weeks Before
Contact LiteMovers for an estimate. Research schools in your new area if applicable. Begin decluttering rooms and deciding what moves with you. This is also the time to notify your current school about withdrawal and contact the new school about enrollment.
Four to Six Weeks Before
Confirm your moving date with us. Begin packing items you don’t use daily. Help children understand the timeline by marking move day on a calendar they can see.
Two to Four Weeks Before
Pack most rooms, leaving out only daily essentials. Transfer utilities and update addresses. Take children to visit the new neighborhood if possible.
Moving Week
Pack remaining items. Arrange childcare for moving day if possible, or designate a safe space where children can stay during loading. Our crews handle the heavy work while you manage your family.
After the Move
Unpack children’s rooms first to establish their space. Maintain routines as much as possible. Explore the new neighborhood together as a family.
Helping Children Through the Transition
Moving affects children differently depending on their age and temperament. While we handle the physical move, here are approaches that help children adjust.
For Younger Children
Keep favorite toys and comfort items accessible, not packed in boxes. Let them help pack their own special items in a designated box they can decorate. Maintain regular meal times and bedtimes as much as possible during the transition.
For School-Age Children
Involve them in decisions where appropriate. Let them choose how to arrange their new room. Help them say goodbye to friends and establish plans to stay in touch. Acknowledge that mixed feelings about moving are normal.
For Teenagers
Respect their need for privacy and space during the transition. Understand that leaving established friendships feels significant. Help them connect with activities or groups in the new area that align with their interests.
Moving Day Tips for Parents
If possible, arrange for children to stay with friends or family on moving day. The activity level can be overwhelming, and keeping children safely occupied elsewhere reduces stress for everyone. If children must be present, designate a “safe room” that gets loaded last where they can play or watch movies while movers work.
Pets Are Family Too
Many families include four-legged members. Moving affects pets similarly to children, and planning helps reduce their stress.
Pet Moving Considerations
Keep pets secured in a quiet room or crate during loading and unloading. The open doors and activity can lead to escapes. At your new home, set up a familiar space with their bed, toys, and food dishes right away. Walk dogs around the new neighborhood to help them acclimate. Cats may need a smaller space initially before having access to the whole house.
Update pet tags and microchip information with your new address immediately. Find a new veterinarian before you need one.
Areas We Serve
LiteMovers provides family moving services throughout the Greater Philadelphia region and beyond.
Local Family Moves
We serve families relocating within Chester County, Montgomery County, Delaware County, Bucks County, and Philadelphia. Moving within the same school district or to a new one, we handle the logistics.
School District Moves
Many family moves are driven by school choices. The Main Line, Chester County, and Central Bucks attract families seeking specific districts. We help families relocate into these areas from throughout the region.
Long Distance Family Moves
Job relocations sometimes take families to new states entirely. Our long distance moving services help families transition to new communities throughout the East Coast and beyond.
Popular Family Destinations
We frequently help families move to communities known for excellent schools and family-friendly amenities, including Malvern, West Chester, Downingtown, Doylestown, Media, and the Main Line communities. These areas offer the combination of strong schools, safe neighborhoods, and family activities that parents seek.
Additional Services for Families
Beyond the basic move, families often need additional support. We offer services that help.
Packing Services
Parents managing children, jobs, and daily life rarely have time to pack an entire house. Our professional packing services handle everything from kitchens to kids’ rooms, freeing you to focus on your family.
Storage Solutions
Sometimes closings don’t align perfectly. Our climate-controlled storage keeps your belongings safe during gaps between homes. Families appreciate knowing their items are secure while they finalize housing details.
Junk Removal
Moving provides opportunity to declutter. Old furniture, outgrown toys, and items that won’t make the trip can be removed before moving day. Less to move means lower costs and faster setup at your new home.
Furniture Rearrangement
Not sure how furniture fits in the new space? Our crews can help rearrange items after delivery until you’re satisfied with the layout.
Frequently Asked Questions
When is the best time for families to move?
Summer remains most popular because children can start fresh at a new school in fall. However, moving during winter or spring break works well for families who need to relocate mid-year. We recommend booking three to four weeks ahead during summer months, as this is our busiest season for family moves.
How do you handle children’s items with care?
We treat children’s belongings with the same care as valuable furniture. Stuffed animals, artwork, and treasured toys get packed carefully in appropriate boxes. We can label boxes clearly so children’s rooms can be unpacked first at your new home, giving kids their familiar space while unpacking continues.
Should children be present on moving day?
Ideally, no. Moving day involves activity that can overwhelm or endanger children. If possible, arrange for children to stay with family or friends during loading and unloading. If they must be present, designate a safe space away from the work area where they can stay occupied.
Can you help with moves to specific school districts?
Yes. Many families relocate specifically to access certain school districts. We serve all the top-rated districts in the Philadelphia suburbs including Lower Merion, Tredyffrin-Easttown, Radnor, West Chester, Downingtown, Central Bucks, and many others. We understand these moves often have specific timing requirements.
Do you offer any guidance for helping kids adjust to a new home?
While we focus on the physical move, we recommend unpacking children’s rooms first to establish familiar space quickly. Maintaining routines like mealtimes and bedtimes helps children feel secure. Letting children arrange their own room gives them ownership of the new space. Most children adjust well within a few weeks once routines establish.
