What Is the AMSA ProMover Program?
The ProMover certification is a consumer protection program administered by the American Moving & Storage Association (AMSA) — the national trade association for the professional moving industry. It was created to help consumers identify legitimate, trustworthy moving companies and distinguish them from rogue operators, unlicensed movers, and moving scams.
Not every moving company qualifies. The ProMover designation requires companies to meet and maintain specific standards that go well beyond simply having a truck and a phone number.
What LiteMovers Had to Prove
To earn and maintain our ProMover certification, LiteMovers must satisfy all of the following requirements on an ongoing basis:
Licensing and Insurance Verification
- USDOT registration — LiteMovers holds an active U.S. Department of Transportation number, which is required for any company performing interstate moves. Our USDOT number is publicly verifiable through the FMCSA’s SaferSys database.
- Pennsylvania PUC authority — For intrastate moves within Pennsylvania, we hold the required Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission operating authority.
- Cargo and liability insurance — We carry the minimum cargo insurance required by federal regulations, plus additional coverage that exceeds the legal minimum.
Background Checks
AMSA conducts an independent background check on the company and its principals as part of the certification process. This is separate from and in addition to the individual employee background checks we perform internally on every crew member (detailed on our crew training page).
BBB Good Standing
ProMover companies must maintain a satisfactory record with the Better Business Bureau. LiteMovers currently holds an A+ BBB rating — the highest possible score — reflecting our complaint resolution record and business practices.
Ethical Standards Agreement
Every ProMover company signs AMSA’s code of ethics, which prohibits:
- Hostage loads — holding a customer’s belongings until they pay an inflated price
- Bait-and-switch estimates — quoting low and charging high
- Unlicensed operations or subcontracting to unlicensed carriers
- Deceptive advertising or misleading claims about services

Why ProMover Matters When Choosing a Mover
The moving industry has a serious fraud problem. According to AMSA, thousands of complaints are filed each year against rogue movers who operate without proper licensing. Common scams include:
- Low-ball internet quotes that triple on moving day
- Holding belongings hostage in a warehouse until the customer pays thousands more than the estimate
- No insurance — meaning any damage is entirely your problem
- Subcontracting your move to a company you’ve never heard of, with no accountability
The ProMover program was specifically designed to address these problems. When you see the ProMover designation, you know:
- The company is properly licensed for the type of move you’re planning
- The company has been independently background-checked
- The company has agreed to ethical business practices
- The company maintains BBB good standing
- There’s an accountability mechanism — AMSA can revoke certification if standards aren’t maintained
How to Verify Our Certification
You don’t have to take our word for it. You can verify LiteMovers’ ProMover status independently:
- AMSA ProMover directory — Search for LiteMovers at moving.org/promover
- FMCSA SaferSys — Verify our USDOT number and safety record at safer.fmcsa.dot.gov
- BBB — Check our A+ rating and complaint history at bbb.org
- PA PUC — Confirm our Pennsylvania operating authority through the PA Public Utility Commission
Beyond the Certificate: What Sets LiteMovers Apart
ProMover is the baseline — the minimum standard that any reputable mover should meet. LiteMovers goes further:
- Eight consecutive Best of Main Line awards — voted by the communities we serve in Chester, Montgomery, and Delaware Counties
- Owner-operated estimates — Ed Bogusz personally conducts in-home estimates, not a commissioned salesperson
- No subcontractors — W-2 employees on every job, with background checks and drug screening that exceed ProMover requirements
- Full-value protection available — We offer comprehensive valuation coverage, not just the minimum $0.60/lb federal requirement
- Specialty capabilities — Fine art crating, piano moving, estate downsizing, and senior living transitions through our partnership with Right Size Relocation
