West Chester Borough Movers
West Chester Borough is the historic heart of the Chester County seat. It is a grid of row homes, twins, and brick walk-ups, with shops and restaurants on Gay and High Streets. It is a great place to live. It is also one of the trickiest places to move in Chester County, because of tight streets, metered parking, and rear alleys.
This page is about moves inside the borough. For township homes, apartments, and everything else, visit our main West Chester movers page.

What Makes a Borough Move Different
- ✓Metered and permit-only blocks. A truck left at a meter for hours gets a ticket. We post temporary no-parking signs through the Borough ahead of time.
- ✓One-way streets. The downtown grid is full of one-way blocks. We plan the truck route and the loading side before move day.
- ✓Rear alleys. Many row homes load from an alley too narrow for a full-size truck. We check access first and send the right truck.
- ✓Steep, narrow stairs. Older row homes and walk-ups over shops have tight staircases. We measure large pieces and plan what comes apart.
- ✓Shared walls. Twins and row homes share walls and sometimes steps. We keep noise, time, and sidewalk space in mind for your neighbors.
Where We Move in the Borough
Downtown and the Gay Street corridor
Apartments over shops and restaurants on Gay and High Streets. Most have no elevator and no loading area. We stage the truck on a side street and use extra movers for the carry.
The numbered streets and row homes
Blocks of row homes and twins spread out from the center of town. Many have a small front stoop and a rear alley. We decide front or back loading during the estimate.
Near West Chester University
Student rentals and small apartment buildings near campus turn over every spring and fall. We plan around the university calendar and offer student moving and summer storage.
Historic homes
The borough has many older homes with original woodwork, plaster walls, and narrow doorways. We pad banisters and door frames, and wrap every piece before it moves.
How We Plan a Borough Move
Look at the access. We ask about your block, your stairs, and whether you have an alley. Photos help. For bigger homes, we do a video or in-home walk-through.
Handle the parking. If your block is metered or permit-only, we post the Borough no-parking signs at least 48 hours ahead and place cones the night before.
Pick the right truck. A smaller truck can reach more borough streets. For bigger moves, we may use a larger truck on the main street and a shuttle from the alley.
Protect first. Floor runners, banister pads, and door frame guards go down before any furniture moves.

West Chester Borough Moving FAQs
Do I need a parking permit to move in West Chester Borough?
On metered and permit-only blocks, yes. LiteMovers posts temporary no-parking signs through West Chester Borough at least 48 hours before move day and sets cones the night before, so the truck has a legal spot close to your door.
Can a moving truck fit down a West Chester Borough alley?
Often not a full-size truck. Many borough row homes load from a narrow rear alley. We check access during the estimate and send a smaller truck or load from the street with extra movers, whichever is safer for your home.
When is the worst time to move in West Chester Borough?
Late August and mid-May are the hardest weeks, because West Chester University students move in and out at the same time. Friday evenings downtown are busy too. A mid-week morning is the easiest time to move.
Do you move students near West Chester University?
Yes. We move students and faculty in and out of borough rentals and nearby apartments. We also offer summer storage, so students can leave in May and get their things back in August.
