Packing lamps and shades can be a tricky task when preparing for a move. These fragile items require extra care and attention to ensure they arrive at your destination intact.
Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to pack lamps and shades:
- Gather supplies: You’ll need packing paper, bubble wrap, packing tape, and a sturdy box that’s large enough to accommodate the lamp base and shade.
- Remove the shade: Take off the lampshade and wrap it with packing paper. If the shade is made of delicate material, like silk, wrap it with bubble wrap as well.
- Remove the light bulb: Take out the bulb and set it aside.
- Wrap the lamp base: Start by wrapping the base of the lamp with packing paper, ensuring that it’s fully covered. Use bubble wrap for added protection.
- Secure the cord: Use a twist tie or rubber band to secure the cord around the base of the lamp.
- Place in box: Place the wrapped lamp base in the box and fill any empty spaces with crumpled packing paper for added cushioning.
- Add the shade: Once the lamp base is secure in the box, carefully place the wrapped lampshade on top. If you’re packing multiple shades, wrap each one individually and stack them in the box.
- Seal the box: Seal the box with packing tape, ensuring that all sides are fully covered.
- Label the box: Label the box with the word “fragile” and “this end up” to ensure it’s handled with care during the move.
By following these simple steps, you can rest assured that your lamps and shades will be protected during your move. With a little extra care and attention, you can enjoy your favorite lamps and shades in your new home without any damage.
