Moving a studio apartment on the Main Line should be the easiest move you ever do. Small footprint, fewer pieces, faster load. But anyone who has done it knows the truth: the apartment is the easy part. The building, the parking, the elevator, the certificate of insurance — that is where studio moves get complicated.
If you are renting a studio in Bryn Mawr, Ardmore, Wayne, Villanova, Radnor, Haverford, or anywhere along the Main Line, this is what to expect when you hire a licensed mover — and what separates a clean two-hour load from a five-hour scramble.

What a Studio Move Actually Looks Like
A typical Main Line studio holds a bed, a couch or loveseat, a small dining setup or work desk, a dresser, a TV, and twenty to forty boxes. With two movers, that load fits comfortably in a single truck and finishes in roughly four hours, door to door, when access is good.
LiteMovers’ minimum is two movers for four hours. That is the smallest crew we send on a residential job, and it is sized for studios and small one-bedrooms specifically. The minimum is a flat figure — equipment, pads, dollies, shrink wrap, basic disassembly, and the truck itself are all included.
What Pushes a Studio Move Past the Minimum
Stairs and walk-ups
A lot of Main Line studios sit in older converted homes, walk-ups along Lancaster Avenue, and third-floor units in town centers. Stairs do not change the rate. They change the clock. A studio that loads in three hours with elevator access can take five with three flights of stairs at one end and three at the other.
Long carries
Many Main Line buildings have parking that puts a 26-foot truck a hundred feet or more from the front door. Every box and piece of furniture takes longer to load. This is the single most common reason a studio move runs past four hours.
Packing services
If we pack your kitchen, closets, and miscellaneous boxes the day before, that is added labor. A studio pack typically takes two movers two to three hours. If you arrive at moving day with everything sealed and labeled, you stay close to the minimum.
Specialty items
A small upright piano, a glass-top dining table, a marble piece, an oversized framed canvas, or a Peloton are all studio-sized items that take longer than they look. Mention them when you book.
Distance
A studio move from Wayne to Bryn Mawr is fifteen minutes of drive time. A move from Wayne to a Center City high-rise is loading dock coordination, COI submission, and forty-five minutes of traffic each direction.
What Is Included When You Book a Studio Move with Us
Two uniformed, background-checked movers (not day labor). A clean truck with a lift gate. Full furniture pads — every piece, every time. Shrink wrap for upholstered furniture. Four-wheel dollies and appliance dollies. TV cartons and mirror cartons on request. Standard furniture disassembly and reassembly. Floor protection at both addresses. Basic liability coverage included with full-value protection available.
All of it billed under our published PA PUC tariff, the same way every licensed Pennsylvania mover is required to bill.

How to Keep Your Studio Move Efficient
Pack everything yourself in advance. Sealed, labeled boxes stacked in one area near the door save the most real time. Reserve the elevator at both buildings — this is the single biggest time-saver. Disassemble bed frames the night before. Empty dressers (a loaded dresser is heavy and unsafe to move). Be ready when the crew arrives. Every fifteen minutes of “let me find my keys” runs the clock.
Why Hire a Licensed Mover for Something This Small
Pennsylvania requires every household goods mover to hold a PA Public Utility Commission certificate. The certificate exists to protect consumers — licensed carriers are bound to a published tariff, carry real cargo and liability insurance, and are accountable to the PUC if something goes wrong. Unlicensed operators have none of that.
If a mover cannot give you their PA PUC number, they are not legal to operate in Pennsylvania. The PA PUC publishes a licensed-mover lookup here. LiteMovers’ certificate is A-8916211.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a studio apartment move take on the Main Line?
A typical Main Line studio move takes about four hours from arrival to unload, assuming elevator access at both ends and that the resident has packed in advance. A studio with three flights of stairs at one end usually runs five to six hours. Long carries from a distant truck position add roughly thirty to sixty minutes. Most studios fit comfortably in our four-hour minimum window.
What is the smallest move LiteMovers will do?
Our smallest crew is two movers for four hours. That is the minimum we send on any residential booking, and it is sized specifically for studios, small one-bedrooms, partial loads, and in-home furniture moves. Booking a single mover is not safe for residential moves with stairs, large furniture, or upholstered pieces, so we do not offer it.
Do I need a certificate of insurance for my Main Line apartment building?
Many Main Line buildings — especially newer luxury rentals in Bryn Mawr, Radnor, Wayne, and Ardmore — require a certificate of insurance from the moving company before move-in or move-out. Some require it 24 to 48 hours in advance. Call your building manager first and ask whether a COI is required and what limits they need. LiteMovers can issue a COI on request.
Can LiteMovers handle a same-week studio move?
Yes, often. Studios are the easiest moves to slot into a tight calendar because the load is small and a single crew can fit one between larger jobs. Tuesday through Thursday have the most availability. Weekends at the end of the month book up first. Call as early in the day as possible for the best chance of a same-day or next-day slot.
Are there extra charges for stairs, long carries, or heavy items?
LiteMovers does not bill separate stair fees or long-carry fees on local moves — the work is performed under the standard hourly tariff. What changes is the time the move takes. Stairs, long carries from a distant truck position, and specialty items (pianos, glass tops, gun safes) all extend the load and unload phases, which is the most common reason a move runs past the minimum window.
